FD182 is a failover device with 8 E1/T1/BRI ports and 2 Ethernet ports. It provides better protection against unpredictable problems that occur on the Asterisk PBX. It offers an effective way to back up the Asterisk PBX when an unwanted change is detected (often when Asterisk fails or the system is powered off). FD182 provides a reliable and flexible solution for the Asterisk PBX.

FD182 is controlled by a module loaded by Asterisk, res_failover.so. This module continuously sends the “running” signal to the redundant server while Asterisk is running. As soon as Asterisk stops or the system power is cut, the module can no longer send the “running” signal to FD182, and it automatically switches to the redundant server.
